Captain Anthony John King
Anthony (Tony) King was born and educated in the
United Kingdom, (England) where he attended Gordonstoun
School in Scotland, a naval preparatory school where
several British Royal Family members were also educated.
He learned to sail at age 7 in the county of Devonshire,
home of Hawkins, Drake and other famous mariners and
pirates. When he was 15 he sailed from Scotland to
Iceland during his summer vacations on the school
sailing schooner, "Prince Eric".
Tony has been close to the sea wherever he has lived
including Santiago and Valparaiso, Chile where he spent
many years. After coming to the United States in 1970,
he spent 5 years in San Juan, Puerto Rico traveling
regularly to the US and British Virgin and other
Caribbean Islands where he became part of the regular
crew of the 45' foot Racing yacht, "Caviar"
owned by the proprietor of the Little Switzerland Import
and Export Company.
In San Juan, he also purchased his first boat a small
21 foot sailing boat in which he traveled throughout the
islands including, the Virgins, Culebra, Vieques, etc.
He has returned at least a dozen times to the Virgin
Islands, on bareboat charters.
In 1999 he moved to Miami and purchased a 1981
Hatteras 53' foot Motor Yacht and moved on to the boat
with his wife Gail. In February of 2001, he became a
licensed Coast Guard Captain with a view to keeping
himself busy with deliveries, charters and yacht
management. He is familiar with the US, British and
Spanish Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas
Islands, the Florida coast and the Keys.
Tony is well traveled, speaks fluent English and
Spanish and some Portuguese and French. He is an
experienced sailing and powerboat Captain and
mechanically capable. He is a certified Scuba Diver.
Tony plays the Guitar and keyboards at a professional
level, his love of music has prompted him to collect and
keep a wide and eclectic collection of CDs on board.
Gail encourages him to participate in the Chef's duties
and occasionally he will prepare one of his native South
American dishes.
First Mate &
International Chef Gail King
Gail King was born and educated in the United Kingdom
and has accumulated 5 years experience cooking and
catering to guests on boats.
She came to Chicago from the United Kingdom in 1990
and then to Florida in 1995. She has been First Mate and
chief cook on several boats including, most recently a
Grand Banks Trawler "The Employer", and now
"La Princesa".
Gail has traveled all over the world, especially in
France, Spain and the Greek Islands. She is a
connoisseur of fine foods and restaurants in Europe,
North and South America and especially the Caribbean.
Her admiration for South American, Caribbean and
Mexican Cuisine definitely permeates her cooking. She
will delight you with delicacies from the islands as
well as a variety of good old "down-home"
recipes for hungry boaters.
Gail loves children and is equally at home with kids
as she is with adults; she can cook for children and
entertain them, she will be their favorite person on
board!
